Mandarin Store and Post Office

The Mandarin Museum & Historical Society will sponsor an event with a special appearance by well-known artist, Brenda Councill, whose award-winning collection of “Old Mandarin” drawings and prints are very popular in the region. For this event, the artist has released a limited number of Artist Proofs that will be available to collectors. Most notably the sold out edition of “The Church of Our Saviour,” which was the third limited edition to be published in the series of eight original drawings.
Author Mary Graff, who wrote Mandarin on the St. Johns, commented, “Brenda Councill’s outstanding drawings will preserve for the future generations the beauty and heritage of Old Mandarin.” This event makes it possible for the next generation to own and enjoy one of these iconic pieces.
Councill moved from Jacksonville to New York and went on to establish herself as a professional artist with such sponsors as the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the National Arts Club. Corporate collections include DuPont, AT&T, British Airways, and Gate Petroleum. North Carolina based organizations that have sponsored Councill’s public art include the Appalachian State University Foundation.
She has been doing large-scale projects for the past 20 years, the latest phase in her 45 year, award-winning career. She completed The Largest Contemporary Painted Dome in the Southeast. Her projects span the globe and can extend for months with large-scale ceiling and wall murals and Public Art installed in landmark buildings and public spaces.
Coming back to the community where she grew up and where her artistic roots began, Councill is offering these these rare original drawings and hand-colored prints to benefit the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society.
