Music Under the Oaks
Open Acoustic Music Jam in Mandarin
Location: Mandarin Museum at Walter Jones Historical Park, 11964 Mandarin Road
The Mandarin Museum & Historical Society is hosting a monthly acoustic music jam at the Walter Jones Historical Park. If you play a traditional acoustic instrument (guitar, banjo, mandolin, etc.) and enjoy singing or playing with others, you are invited to come out and play usually on the the first Sunday of each month from 2 – 4 pm. Check the calendar for exact dates. The Mandarin Museum and 1898 St. Joseph’s Mission Schoolhouse for African-American Children, which illustrate some of the rich history of Mandarin, will be open during this time for visiting as well.
This is an outdoor event, so expect cancellation if there are bad rains the day of the event or it is too cold. Generally it is a perfect setting to join other musicians in a round of sharing and playing together – under the old oaks on this beautiful historic property. This event is presented in partnership with the North Florida Folk Network (www.nffolk.com)
If it’s been awhile since you’ve played, don’t worry. This is an open jam for participants at any level of experience. Dust off that instrument and join right in. Do bring your own chair and water, as we are limited in what we can provide at this location.
“Listeners” are welcome, but please bring your chairs too, and enjoy the beautiful music being made by local musicians. Artists are also welcome to come paint.
